Frequently Asked Questions
Question: We want to get going but we are having trouble getting our conversations started, what are some questions we can ask to help guide our discussions at each stage?
In our training workshops we used case studies and provided a set of questions for considering each stage. Participants found these really helped to focus their discussions. The questions are different for each stage:
Question 1
Getting Started: What is a possible vision? Who would need to be involved and what might the team look like?
Question 2
Know the Context: What are the factors that will affect success? Who are the champions and challengers? What are the barriers?
Question 3
Deciding to Proceed: Is there commitment to the project? Are there power differentials between stakeholders? How do you ensure everyone participates meaningfully? What is the process to resolve conflict?
Question 4
Planning: What is the scope? What would be the goal and timeline of the project? How will you know you’re successful?
Question 5
Implementation: What factors might change as you implement the project? How can you keep the larger community excited, involved, and informed?
Question 6
Evaluation: How will you evaluate the project? Are there certain metrics you will use? Who will collect and organize them? How will you share the results?
Question 7
Sustainability: Is this an ongoing project, and if so, how can it be sustainable? How can you sustain the relationships formed during the project? What will the situation look like one year after the project completes?
